Job Description

This is an entry-level position inside a telecom core network team. If you picture a mobile network as a body, the radio towers are the limbs and the core network is the brain. It decides who a subscriber is, whether they are allowed on the network, how their data and calls are routed, and how they are billed. As a trainee you will not be running the show on day one. You will support engineers who design, operate and upgrade this core, learning how real signalling flows behave under live traffic. A good part of the job is observing, validating and troubleshooting rather than building from scratch. The role matters because core problems affect everyone. An authentication glitch or a misconfigured node can hit thousands of users at once, so the team values careful, well-documented work. Expect a mix of desk-based analysis, coordination with other teams, and testing tied to new rollouts. The posting does not describe shift timings or hybrid options, so treat the environment as a typical telecom operations setting.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting core network design. You will assist senior engineers in shaping how the core architecture is laid out. As a trainee, this means gathering information, reviewing diagrams and understanding why design choices are made. Working with device and product teams. The posting mentions coordinating requirements for 4G, 3G and roaming capability. Phones and services must behave properly on the network, so you will help turn product needs into technical requirements. Supporting 4G, 3G and 2G core operations. This is the day-to-day running of the network. You will learn how different generations of technology coexist and what keeps each one healthy. Monitoring KPIs and service parameters. You will watch indicators such as success rates and load. Spotting a number drifting early is often how big outages are prevented. Assisting subscriber provisioning. When a new user or service is activated, details must flow correctly through several systems. You will help follow those flows and check that they work. Validating authentication and charging. These systems confirm who a subscriber is and make sure usage is counted properly. Errors here mean either blocked users or billing disputes, so accuracy matters. Supporting interconnect and roaming tests. Your network must work with other operators' networks. You will help test that calls, data and roaming behave correctly across those boundaries. Analysing call flows and signalling issues. You will read message sequences between network nodes to find where a procedure fails. It is detective work, and it is where you will learn the most. Troubleshooting alarms and outages. When something breaks, you will help find the cause and support the fix, learning how experienced engineers stay calm under pressure. Documenting configurations and changes. Good records let teams roll back safely and understand past decisions. Treat this as a serious skill, not paperwork. Coordinating with RAN and transport teams. Problems often sit at the boundary between the core, the radio network and the transport links. You will learn to talk across those teams. Supporting upgrades and new node rollouts. You will be part of the preparation, testing and verification when new equipment or software goes live.

Required Skills

Basic knowledge of 4G, 3G and 2G. You should know what each generation does at a high level. In the job, you will see how voice and data are handled differently across them. Start by learning the main nodes of each generation and what they are responsible for. Signalling protocol basics. Signalling is how network nodes talk to each other to set up sessions and calls. You will read these messages while debugging. Beginners should understand the idea of a request, a response and a failure code. Analytical and troubleshooting skills. Most of your value comes from breaking a vague problem into smaller checks. Practise by taking a problem and asking what is the first thing that could cause it, then ruling things out one by one. Interpreting network KPIs. A KPI is a number that summarises network health. You need to judge whether a change is normal or alarming. Learn what success rate and drop rate mean and how to read a trend. Written and verbal communication. You will explain faults to other teams and document changes. Clear short writing saves hours in a live incident. Team player with a learning mindset. Telecom work is collaborative and the technology keeps evolving. Showing curiosity matters more than knowing everything. Basic IP networking. IP addressing, routing and TCP/UDP fundamentals sit underneath everything in the core. If this is weak, revise it first. Familiarity with telecom standards. Standards bodies define how networks interoperate. You do not need to memorise specifications, but you should know they exist and how to look things up.

Eligibility Criteria

Degree: B.E. or B.Tech is required. Branches: The posting does not list specific branches. Electronics and Communication, Electrical, Telecommunication and Computer Science or IT graduates are the most natural fits because of the networking content. Do not assume other branches are excluded, but verify on the official page. Experience: Freshers are explicitly welcome. Preferred background: Coursework or projects in computer networks, communication systems or telecom will help your profile stand out. Other criteria: Minimum marks and graduation year cut-offs are not stated. Check the official page for any updates.

Salary Details

The expected salary for the Graduate Engineer Trainee role at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is ₹4 – ₹7 LPA (Approx.). Final compensation may vary based on skills, interview performance and overall experience.

Selection Process

Jio has not published the selection process for this opening. Graduate trainee hiring commonly follows a pattern like this: Application: create a profile on the Jio careers portal and upload your resume. Resume shortlisting: profiles are screened for degree, projects and relevant coursework. Online assessment: possibly aptitude and technical questions. Technical interview: networking and telecom fundamentals. HR interview: communication, motivation and relocation. Offer: the offer letter and joining details. The exact steps and their order may vary, so rely on official communication from Jio.

Resume Tips

  • Projects to highlight: anything involving networking, communication systems, protocol simulation, packet analysis or monitoring dashboards. A mini-project that analyses traffic using a packet capture tool is a strong example.

  • Skills to mention: IP networking, basic 4G/LTE architecture, signalling basics, Linux comfort, and any scripting such as Python for log analysis.

  • Certifications: an introductory networking certification or a telecom fundamentals course adds credibility, but only list what you have genuinely completed.

  • Mistakes to avoid: listing skills you cannot discuss, writing a generic objective, burying relevant coursework on page two, and leaving out project outcomes. Make each project line say what you did and what happened.

  • Match the language: the posting stresses troubleshooting and analysis, so show examples where you diagnosed something rather than only built it.

Interview Preparation

Technical topics to revise:

  • The 4G core architecture: MME, SGW, PGW, HSS and PCRF, and what each does

  • The older 3G and 2G core nodes at a high level

  • The attach procedure and how a subscriber gets authenticated

  • Basic IP concepts: addressing, subnetting, routing, TCP versus UDP

  • Signalling basics, including Diameter, GTP and SIP at an overview level

  • What VoLTE is and why voice over IP matters in 4G

  • Roaming and interconnect in simple terms

Sample questions:

  • What happens when a phone is switched on and connects to the network?

  • How would you investigate a sudden drop in call success rate?

  • What is the difference between the control plane and the user plane?

  • What KPIs would you watch after a software upgrade?

HR questions: Why telecom? Why Jio? Are you comfortable relocating to Mumbai? Tell us about a time you solved a problem as a team.

Preparation tips: draw the 4G architecture from memory, walk through one call flow aloud, and practise explaining a technical idea to a non-technical person. Interviewers for trainee roles usually care more about clear fundamentals than depth.
